Coleman shook the jazz world when he arrived at the Five Spot Café in New York City in 1959 and began his run of seminal albums on Atlantic that laid the foundation for the free jazz movement to come. After a period of disillusionment during which he withdrew from public music making, Coleman re-emerged on Blue Note in 1966 and began writing an intriguing new chapter of his legendary career.
"I have been an Ornette Coleman fanatic going back to the late-60s, in fact going back to the time the records in this set were originally recorded for Blue Note," says Harley. "Turns out Don Was is as big an Ornette fan as me, so it was only a matter of time before we put our heads together to plan this boxset. I love those early records Ornette did for Atlantic. who doesn't? But I feel that Ornette's later recordings for Blue Note are every bit as vital and important to gain a more complete understanding
"It is true that the most shattering of his wails could wake the proverbial dead," writes Conrad in his essay. "But something happened to Coleman's tone while he was woodshedding those two years. In the Golden Circle it is still penetrating but more pure. His cries are even more vocal, more human. His control of microtones provides new resources of expression. He can now make the same note sound ecstatic or despairing or anywhere in between, through microtonal nuance."
At The `Golden Circle' Stockholm, Vol. 1 (1965)
At The `Golden Circle' Stockholm, Vol. 2 (1965)
In late 1965, Coleman embarked on his first tour of Europe with a new trio featuring David Izenzon on bass and Charles Moffett on drums. Two nights of the trio's two-week engagement at the Golden Circle (Gyllene Cirkeln) in Stockholm, Sweden were recorded and released across two volumes the following year. The freewheeling live sets were electrifying and found the saxophonist jumping off into sound explorations on the violin and trumpet as well.
The Empty Foxhole (1966)
Coleman's first studio recording for Blue Note was his first studio album in four years and he once again confounded expectations by selecting his 10-year-old son Denardo Coleman to play drums on the date alongside bassist Charlie Haden. The music is raw and exploratory with solemn ruminations and bursts of unbridled joy. The striking album cover features a painting by Ornette himself.
New And Old Gospel (1967)
Coleman's next appearance on a Blue Note album came in a rare sideman role on this explosive session led by alto saxophonist Jackie McLean. McLean had already waded into the avant-garde on prior Blue Note dates like One Step Beyond and Destination. Out!, but he went even deeper here with Coleman featured entirely on trumpet along with LaMont Johnson on piano, Scott Holt on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. Following an extended suite by McLean on Side 1, the second half of the program featured two Coleman c
New York Is Now! (1968)
Love Call (1968)
On April 29 and May 7, 1968, Coleman brought a dynamic quartet with tenor saxophonist Dewey Redman, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones into the studio to record what would yield his final two albums for Blue Note. The alchemy of this group, which combined Coleman's first-time two-saxophone pairing with a rhythm team deeply associated with John Coltrane, produced thrilling results.

OVERKILL are an American thrash metal band, formed in 1980 in New Jersey. They are often called “the Motörhead of thrash metal,” based on their unique playing style, which was influenced by punk rock and the new wave of British heavy metal. They were also one of the first thrash metal bands to sign to a major label (having signed to Atlantic Records in 1986), and rose to fame as part of the genre’s movement of the mid-to-late 1980s, along with the “big four” (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) as well as Exodus and Testament. OVERKILL achieved their first mainstream success with their second studio album and Atlantic debut, Taking Over (1987) which acclaimed global praise & chart success. The band’s next five studio albums were also on Atlantic —Under the Influence (1988), The Years of Decay (1989), Horrorscope (1991), I Hear Black (1993) and W.F.O. (1994) and were also successful on a global scale, making them one of the most successful East Coast thrash metal bands. 3 LP box. Fire Records are proud to release this comprehensive collection of one of the label's flagship bands from the early years. Taking it's name; "Firestation Tower", from the track that gained them world-wide recognition when the song featured on NME's influential C-86 compilation; the set brings together their LPs "Foxheads Stalk This Land", "Headache Rhetoric", and "Forever, Until Victory! The Singles Collection". As one of Fire's earliest signings, Close Lobsters stormed up the indie charts with their unique melodic jangle pop and skewed world-view. Their debut "Going To Heaven To See If It Rains" announced the band with a top ten bang, and they never looked back. Burning briefly, but oh so brightly, the band would continue to be sighted as an influence for decades to come.
This is a US RSD 2018 Limited edition box set of 1200.

Extended compositions and explorations created during the Bird Box scoring sessions from Academy Award winners Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. Over two hours of music completed in various hotel rooms before and after Nine Inch Nails’ 2018 Cold, Black & Infinite US tour. The intense pace and pressures of nightly performances began to bleed through into the work. What started as a film score began to mutate and expand into something far beyond what you saw on the screen. 4XLP pressed on 180g vinyl.
Soul Asylum first hit the Minneapolis music scene in early 1981. Core members Dave Pirner, Dan Murphy, and Karl Mueller met at local punk rock shows. Coming up in the shadow of formidable bands like Hüsker Dü and The Replacements, who they were all big fans of, was daunting but, ultimately, it inspired them to make a name for themselves. Soul Asylum stood out immediately because of their work ethic and smart, punky hard rock sound. They made four records for hometown label Twin/Tone Records, before moving on to the majors; first A&M, then Columbia where they scored two platinum albums and won a Best Rock Song Grammy® for “Runaway Train.” This special five-LP boxed set brings together Soul Asylum’s earliest albums (Say What You Will . . . Anything Can Happen, Made To Be Broken, and While You Were Out), their classic EP (Clam Dip & Other Delights), and the bonus track compilation and special new album (Twin/Tone Extras), a compilation that picks up select bonus tracks featured on the CD reissues of Soul Asylum’s Twin/Tone releases. The boxed set is co-produced by Twin/Tone Records cofounder and Replacements manager Peter Jesperson and Grammy®-winner and Omnivore Recordings co-founder Cheryl Pawelski. The Twin/Tone Years reaches back for some of the earliest Soul Asylum recordings as Loud Fast Rules and traces the history of the band through their indie, pre-major label years. A 20-page book is included with liner notes and previously unseen photos and memorabilia. The albums are being reissued on vinyl for the first time since their original releases, and have been restored and mastered by Grammy®-award winning engineer, Michael Graves at Osiris Studio and cut by Chris Muth at Taloowa. The Record Store Day Black Friday release includes a 20-page book with liner notes and previously unseen photos and memorabilia.
The perfect Giant Sand show runs two hours and drags you around the room filling you with booze and asking you to dance before pulling at your heartstrings, tying them in knots and then leading you into a barroom brawl that only stops to hear the piano player bare his soul before raining down the bottles and starting all over again. These collections allow you to get that feeling in your own home.
The first volume of the Sun Set box set includes: “Ballad Of A Thin Blue Man” (1986), “Blurry Blue Mountain’”(2010), “Center Of The Universe” (1992), “Chore Of Enchantment” (2000), “Glum” (1994) and “Goods And Services” (1995).
