Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers (2021 Remaster) - VINYL LP - The National's second album, Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers (2003) proved a leap forward from 2001's eponymous debut, showing a band adept at delivering warm embraces and gut punches in equal measure. With word of mouth now spreading on the band, critics proved equally enthusiastic. Pitchfork in their glowing review called it a "Gorgeous train wreck" that "Lives up to it's blunt title (with) Matt Berninger's self-effacing barbs matched by the band's equally potent hooks," while Uncut also became early champions saying the album was "A genuine treasure... Livid as a bruise, this is brave, desperate, beautiful music."

The preceding years have been extraordinary for Ryley Walker. In March, his second album, Primrose Green, emerged to critical hosannas from the likes of NPR, Village Voice, Uncut, and Mojo - in the process, earning admiration of musicians who had chalked up no shortage of turntable miles in Walker's life. Robert Plant declared himself a fan - as did double-bass legend Danny Thompson, with whom Ryley would later embark on a British tour. A sprawling tour of the USA around Primrose Green presented a perfect chance to workshop ideas for what would eventually become his third studio album, Golden Sings That Have Been Sung. On the album, "The Roundabout" represents a symbolic return to Chicago, while other songs are directly wedded to Ryley's actual return there. Perhaps more than any other song on the record, the somnambulant sun-dappled intimacies of opening track "The Halfwit In Me" most audibly bear the imprint of Ryley's improvisational sessions with Wilco multi-instrumentalist, Chicagoan and producer Leroy Bach, while "Funny Thing She Said" is an unflinching study of separation set to a shimmeringly supple ensemble performance. Soft, slo-mo explosions of melody intermittently burst through the distant thunder of the verses on "A Choir Apart". Intriguing, surreal images are meted out by "I Will Ask You Twice", like a malfunctioning slide projector; and, perhaps best of all, the stunning finale, "Age Old Tale", which spiders out from an Alice Coltrane-inspired reverie into a sustained rapture that very few artists have managed to achieve.

Glow In The Dark Packaging. Shortly after his December 2019 LA shows, Jerry Cantrell entered the studio to begin work on Brighten. The album was produced by Cantrell, Tyler Bates, and co-produced by engineer Paul Figueroa. The cast of players on Brighten is: Jerry Cantrell - Guitar, bass, vocals, keys, Greg Puciato - Background vocals, Duff McKagan - Bass, Gil Sharone - Drums, Abe Laboriel Jr. - Drums, Tyler Bates - Strings, percussion, guitar, Vincent Jones - Piano, keys, & strings, Jordan Lewis - Piano Michael, Rozon - Pedal steel, Lola Bates - Background vocals, Matias Ambrogi-Torres - Strings. "It was like an old school seventies record where a multitude of musicians played," smiles Cantrell. "So it's not a set band. I got to make music with a bunch of guys I never had before, along with friends like Duff & Tyler & Gil who I've worked with previously. I've always been a fan of bands that were heavy on harmony. Ive been lucky enough to have that relationship with Layne Staley and now William DuVall. Greg and I worked together in a similar fashion and blended nicely. We were creating and changing this thing all the way up until the end. It took way longer than I wanted it to, but it became an even better record. This record offers cleaner glimpses of what I grew up on, listened to, and am still inspired by todayâ" he states. "I was raised by two country fans, so I think you can hear that energy in there as well. This album has prominent roles for keys, strings, and pedal steel, which I haven't incorporated in such a heavy fashion before."

MP3 Album: $10.99 Download

AMERICAN DREAM is the long awaited fourth album from LCD Soundsystem. The album is available digitally, and on CD and LP.

The first two singles released from the album are "call the police" and "american dream," that moved Pitchfork to rave the songs "couldn't sound timelier" and that "Murphy and company have never sounded so invigorated." The New York Times hailed "call the police" as "a quietly ambitious protest song… except that instead of searing, it motors," and Noisey embraced "american dream" like "a warm blanket." The band debuted both of these tracks on a May, 2017 appearance on Saturday Night Live. The next track and video that followed is "tonite."
